H.H. Lokanth Swami Maharaj on Sant Tukaram Maharaj

Saint Tukaram was the most famous of all Maharashtrian saints. He lived during the seventeenth century, and over the last three hundred years his devotional influence has been deeply felt by the local people. His poems, the 4,500 verses known as the Abhangas, have become part of the public memory of Maharashtra. They are sung in every village and in every town.

In his autobiography, Tukaram says he was initiated in a dream by Raghava Caitanya Kesava Caitanya. Though not everyone agrees, Gaudiya Vaisnavas (such as the ISKCON devotees) understand this to mean Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu.

As Srila Prabhupada comments (Caitanya-Caritamrta, Madya 9.282, purport), "The sankirtana party belonging to Tukaram is still very popular in Bombay. [It] exactly resembles the Gaudiya Vaisnava sankirtana parties, for they chant the holy name with mrdanga and karatalas." They also wear neck beads and tilaka similar to those of the Gaudiya tradition.

Notes

1) Ajah - meams unborn, does it refer to Sri Krishna and also the soul as the soul is also not born ?
Ans: No
Sri Krishna is manifest only by his own seet will, while the soul in the material world is forsed to take bodies by the will of maya.

2) Akartuh - not active , So is Sri Krishna inactive
Ans: It means not matrially active, two birds on the tree example, Just like Paramatama is watching while the jiva is active in the matrial world.

Chaper 3 verse 36

http://vedabase.net/sb/1/3/36/en2

Bhaktivedanta VedaBase: Srimad Bhagavatam 1.3.36

The Lord, whose activities are always spotless, is the master of the six senses and is fully omnipotent with six opulences. He creates the manifested universes, maintains them and annihilates them without being in the least affected. He is within every living being and is always independent.
Notes

Chaper 3 verse 37

http://vedabase.net/sb/1/3/37/en2

TRANSLATION

The foolish with a poor fund of knowledge cannot know the transcendental nature of the forms, names and activities of the Lord, who is playing like an actor in a drama. Nor can they express such things, neither in their speculations nor in their words.

Notes
1) Imersonalists cannot understand the Supreme Personality Of Godhead.

Chaper 3 verse 37

TRANSLATION

Notes
1) ratha-anga-paneh -- of Lord Krsna, who bears in His hand the wheel of a chariot

Reason 1: It shows how Sri Krishna out of Love for His devotee does not hesitate to break his own promise to keep Bhishma's promise.
Reason 2: It shows how Sri Krishna will always protect His devotee, in this case it was Arjuna
Reason 3: It is also spoken so early in the Bhagavatam as Parikshit Maharaj is a descendent of Arjuna

The Vedanta: It's Morphology and Ontology

The Vedanta: It's Morphology and Ontology by Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakura

http://www.mandala.com.au/books/vedanta.htm

His Grace Rupa vilas prabhu was saying that we should read this essay and see how we appreciate the sheer genious of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakura .

An excert ...

The Absolute Infinity and absolute infinitesimals are not at loggerheads with one another. So the subjectivity and the objectivity described in the Vedanta Philosophy have different denominations from the present conception of the limited idealists who disown all types of objectivity. If we have a keen watch over the transcendental object we can eliminate the grossness and mundane subtleties. The new state of spirit need not have any relation with mundane manifestations. The unalloyed soul should not be disturbed by cutting asunder the transcendental links inseparable with the entity of the unalloyed spirit. We should not anthropomorphize our present crippled ideas when we traverse the Vedantic path. The potency of the Personality of the Transcendental Absolute (Pumshottama) need not be restricted, out of our poor experience of this world which is of a faulty nature. The apotheotic conception...

Phew !

Srimad Bhagavatam 1.3.28 - Paribhas Sutra

His Grace Rupa Vilas Parbhu has been giving Srimad Bhagavatam classes every Friday.

Last time we discussed Srimad Bhagavatam 1.3.28 http://vedabase.net/sb/1/3/28/en2 .

ete camsa-kalah pumsah
krsnas tu bhagavan svayam
indrari-vyakulam lokam
mrdayanti yuge yuge

SYNONYMS

ete -- all these; ca -- and; amsa -- plenary portions; kalah -- portions of the plenary portions; pumsah -- of the Supreme; krsnah -- Lord Krsna; tu -- but; bhagavan -- the Personality of Godhead; svayam -- in person; indra-ari -- the enemies of Indra; vyakulam -- disturbed; lokam -- all the planets; mrdayanti -- gives protection; yuge yuge -- in different ages.

TRANSLATION

All of the above-mentioned incarnations are either plenary portions or portions of the plenary portions of the Lord, but Lord Sri Krsna is the original Personality of Godhead. All of them appear on planets whenever there is a disturbance created by the atheists. The Lord incarnates to protect the theists.

As per Sila Jiva Goswami this is the paribhas sutra or the key verse of the enitre Srimad Bhagavatam. If this verse is understand correctly the entire Srimad Bhagavatam will be understood correctly.

The verse has the word "tu" or but which is significant. For example , if some one says, there are many important people in this room but such and such is the President.

So it means even though others are also important people, but here is the President.

So even though there are many amshas and many kalas but Sri Krishna is Bhagavam Swayam.

In Sri Krishna Sandarbha Srila Jiva Goswami uses the following way to estabhish that this verse is the paribhas sutra:-

1) He quotes the other seemingly contradictory verses from the Srimad Bhagavatam and explains them in a way that they are not contradictory
2) He quotes all the supportive verses from the Srimad Bhagavatam.
3) He quotes other seemingly contradictory verses from the sruti and smriti and explains them in a way that they are not contradictory.
4) He quotes all the supportive verses from the sruti and smriti.
5) He explains that more than half of the verses in the Srimad Bhagavatam are about Sri Krishna and His Activities.

At the end when all the points are covered, then it is established that Lord Sri Krsna is the original Personality of Godhead.

Srila Jiva Goswami Ki Jay !

His Grace Govind Prabhu on attachment to hearing and chanting

I listen to lectures from http://www.iskcondesiretree.info/ .

In one of his lectures His Grace Govind Prabhu was explaining the importance of attachment to hearing and chanting.

The cronology;-
1) In our youth we may be good at some temple service
2) The temple we are at may grow bigger or as we grow old and our facilities fail us we may not remain as good in that service
3) Some other person may be able to do that service much better than us
4) If at that time we are not so much attached to hearing and chanting, then we may not be very happy to see the service we are so very attached to doing, being done by some one else, even if it is being done better than us.
5) If however we are attached to hearing and chanting, then it may not affect us that much, and also no one can take away our hearing and chanting.

It is so very nice and insightful "Any one can hear and chant at any time and be blissfull !".

I know for a fact that when i hear and chant well, i feel much beter.

About this blog

In my life I have met so many amazing devotees of the Supereme Lord.

I have been amazed at their level of pure love, purity, auterity, determination, steadfastness, knowledge, renunciation and so many other such rare qualities.

Many times i have had such wonderfull experiances while travelling around the world.

I leave mumbai not knowing what to expect in another city of india or another ciy in another country. Then i enter an ISKCON temple and what do i see, the same mood and love of Sri Braja Dham, the same service atitude, the same kind of devotees, the same kind of kirtans, the same love in feeding prasad to all that come to the temple, the same Gita and Bhagavad classes for the wellfare of the people in general.

How is not true then? that our Dear Srila Prabhupada has built a house that the whole world can live in.

I just hope that i can share some bits of my Reflections on this journey.

Also I hope that all who will read this, will pray for me and thus some day or even some life time i will become free of all the bitter nonsense that i have in my heart.
