Understanding Sidhanta is not a matter of Scholarship

In the verse in the previous post from the seventh chapter we see that Sri Krishna does not approve of the action of Ashwasthama and wants him to be punished as per the capital punishment. This is because he has killed the 5 children of the pandavas, that too when they were sleeping. This is definitely a heinous act and is in every way against Dharma.

However Draupadi being a Vaishnavi is soft hearted and thus does not want Ashwasthama to be punished. She still considers him to be a Bhramana and also did not want his mother to cry for him. And then Sri Krishna agrees with her also!

Then Sri Krishna asks Arjuna to do something equivocal i.e. punish him and also not punish him. Now Arjuna who is very pure and has understood the Sidhanta directly form Sri Krishna who acted as his Guru, he not only understood the mood of Sri Krishna and also did act in a way that pleased Sri Krishna and as per the shastras.

The Sidhanta is understood not understood by reading books only. So many times we see that we are confused what to do, and unless we have a guide or a guru, we will not know what to do.

For example at some point of time Srila Prabhupada said that if you want to eat flesh of animals at least do not eat cows or that at least do not maintain slaughterhouses. So one may conclude, hey Srila Prabhupada says it is ok to eat flesh of animals as long as i do not eat cows or as long as i do not eat things from slaughterhouse.

That instruction of Srila Prabhupada is for a specific person at a specific time, place and circumstance, but that will not stop people from saying Srila Prabhupada said….

You see the Tattva or essence of Dharma is naturally very difficult to understand.

Unless one personally serves and understands Sidhanta from someone is self realized, he will be confused and end up confusing others. It is not a matter of reading so many things.
